Ayurvedic treatment for Diabetes; The Silent Killer!

Diabetes is called the ‘silent killer because it has no initial symptoms. It comes slowly and unexpectedly, but it is a livable disease, and many patients had been living for decades. Want to know how they are managing? If yes, then keep reading!

Daily insulins, no sweets, meat, processed carbohydrates, etc., are a few of the do’s & don’ts for a sugar patient. But that does not consider the fact that they cannot live everyday life. Many people managed themselves by making few changes in their lifestyle by adapting Ayurveda, which is the alternative medication system, originated in India, whose historical roots go back to 3000 years ago.

Following are some ayurvedic changes they have made in their lives and come to terms with it:

  • Diet (Ahar)

Diet is an integral part of being healthy. And for diabetic patients, it is vital to keep a check on what they eat because sugar and carbohydrates are a strict no for them. Avoid food like pasta, noodles, rice, and drinks like coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Include fibrous food like cucumber, pear, broccoli, oranges, etc., to your diet as these are easy to digest. Add plant-based proteins like beans, nuts, tofu to your routine diet.

Also, your body needs carbohydrates and calcium, but you need to choose wisely. Like you can opt for brown rice, quinoa, whole grains, millets, low-fat cream, or milk.

  • Medication (Chikitsa)

Insulin is a must for a diabetic patient. But except for it, Ayurveda does not believe in medicines. It believes in treating the problem from its roots and boosting the immune system naturally. For this, many herbs and spices have been found effective.

  1. Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) are high in fiber content and help control blood glucose levels.
  2. Cinnamon is recently discovered to be effective in lowering high sugar levels and reducing insulin resistance.
  3. Other herbs and spices like turmeric, bitter guard, garlic, curry leaves, ginger, etc., have also been effective.
  • Exercise (Vyayam)

A patient needs to stay fit physically and mentally. For it, yoga and meditation are the best and will help in producing natural insulin. Regular exercise will help in controlling weight, which is a usual problem for a diabetes patient. Through meditation, your mind will stay calm and clear, and your stress hormones will keep in order, which will help keep the disease in control.

Many studies have found that Ayurveda has been proved as the most natural way of keeping the sugar level in control. Also, along with helping with diabetes, Ayurveda can help avoid other illnesses that usually accompany diabetes. From now on, stop worrying, and start making these changes in your life, so you could also live everyday life.
